What inspired you to write “Dilemma”?
 
My ongoing and growing awareness that society could do much better serving the planet.  
 
If you could be any character from any story, what would you be and why?
 
James Herriot from All Creatures Great and Small. He was a veterinarian in rural England in the forties and fifties, and lead a meaningful and long life.
 
Are you a procrastinator or preparer?
 
Both, depending on the issue.
 
Tell us about other things that you are involved in besides writing?
 
Raising my daughter Emily, producing music and playing with bands, reading.
 
If you could speak with yourself as a child, what would you tell him?  Do you think he would listen?
 
I would tell him to follow his heart. I think he would listen, but I’m not sure.
 
How would you describe yourself in 7 words or less? (and no, it does not have to be a complete sentence:)
 
Patient, Pragmatic, Funny, Agnostic, Social Democrat, and all around nice guy
 
How do you encourage the delinquency of your inner child?
 
I play music and never wear a necktie or a wrist watch–nooses and shackles I do well without.

Ilan Herman was born in NYC but now lives with his young daughter in the California Sierra foothills. Ilan holds a degree in music composition, and has spent many years touring the world with show bands. He does music production in various styles, samples of which can be heard at www.emily-music.com Ilan reads every day, usually pecking at two or three books at a time, and is comfortable with having a pile of books on his nightstand. He credits his love of books to the likes of Chekhov, Marquez, Melville, and Updike. Ilan has written nine novels, five novellas, and about fifty short stories.
His novel The Gravedigger will be published by Casperian Books in the fall of 2010.
